Almost everyone booking Da Nang for the first time ends up choosing between two places that are four hundred metres apart. My Khe, the beachfront strip along Vo Nguyen Giap, where the sea is the view from the bed. Or An Thuong, the grid of small streets behind it, where the cafes, bars and cheaper rooms are and the beach is a five-minute walk.
Most advice answers this with a shrug about personal preference. We can do better than that, because we have the prices.
We took every hotel in our Da Nang database that clears a guest score of 8.5 from at least a hundred reviews, sorted them by which area they physically sit in, and sampled the same two nights for all of them. The result is the clearest argument in Da Nang accommodation, and it is not about quality.

The median guest score is identical. The median price is not: the beachfront runs about a fifth higher on both sample nights, and that gap holds in December when the whole city gets more expensive. You are not buying a better hotel on the beach road. You are buying the last two minutes of walking, and paying roughly nine dollars a night for them.

What the money actually buys
Nine dollars a night is two bowls of bun cha ca, or a long massage, or most of a taxi to the Marble Mountains. Over a week it is about sixty dollars. Put like that it sounds obvious, and for a lot of people it is.
But the beachfront premium is not only about distance. At the top of the range it buys things An Thuong mostly does not have: rooms where the sea fills the window, infinity pools on the roof facing the water, and the big four-star properties with thousands of reviews and the service systems that come with them. Our My Khe sample tops out at five hundred and sixty-six dollars a night and has a much longer tail of expensive rooms; An Thuong tops out at two hundred and eleven.
At the bottom of the range the two areas are almost identical. Eleven dollars against thirteen for the cheapest qualifying room, and the same median score. If you are travelling cheaply, the choice really is only about walking.
Choose My Khe if any of these is you
You are travelling with small children. Crossing Vo Nguyen Giap with a four-year-old twice a day is the single strongest argument for the beach side. Being able to go back to the room at eleven when someone melts down matters more than the price gap.
You want the sea from the bed. It is a real thing and An Thuong cannot sell it. If the sunrise over the water is part of why you came, pay the nine dollars.
You swim at six in the morning. Locals do, the sea is calmest then, and a two-minute walk is the difference between doing it daily and doing it twice.
You want the big-hotel machine. Bell desk, multilingual reception, a pool with towels, a buffet that changes daily. Those cluster on the beach road.

Choose An Thuong if any of these is you
You are staying more than four nights. The savings compound and the walkability starts to matter more than the view you stop noticing on day three.
You want to walk to dinner. This is the real An Thuong advantage and it is understated. Restaurants, bars, massage places and cafes are one to three minutes from most rooms here. On the beach road you often walk five to ten minutes back inland to eat anyway.
You are working remotely. The cafe density in An Thuong is the highest in the city and most places are happy to have you sit for hours.
You are a couple on a budget who still want a pool. At An Thuong's median you get a four-star with a rooftop pool for what a mid-range beachfront room costs.

The honest catches, both sides
My Khe's catch: everything near the sand is priced for the view, including the restaurants. The seafood halls opposite the beach sell by the kilo and the bills that go wrong are almost always on that road. The sea also turns rough from roughly September to December on this coast, and on red-flag days a beachfront room is just a room with a nice window.
An Thuong's catch: noise. The through-streets carry motorbikes well past ten at night, and the bars run later. This is the most repeated complaint in recent reviews of hotels here, and the fix is simple and often ignored: ask for a room at the back of the building, away from the street.
Neither catch is a reason to avoid an area. Both are reasons to be specific about the room.
What about the other five areas?
This comparison covers the two areas most people actually choose between, but Da Nang has seven and two of the others are genuinely better for specific trips.
City Center, across the river, has 68 qualifying hotels at a median of forty-two dollars in October and thirty-five in December, the cheapest of the three main areas, and it is where the local food is. The catch is that the beach is a ten-minute Grab ride, so you commute to the sand.
Non Nuoc, south toward Hoi An, is the resort strip: only ten properties clear our bar and the median is a hundred and fifty-nine dollars in October, rising to two hundred and twenty-six at Christmas. That is a different holiday, not a different neighbourhood.
Son Tra splits in two. The median is forty-three dollars, but the range runs from twenty-one to five hundred and twenty-two, because the peninsula holds both small local hotels and the InterContinental. Nothing there is walkable.
Airport Side is for the first or last night only. Our sample is tiny, two properties, at a median of nineteen dollars.

How we got these numbers
Every property in our Da Nang database with a guest score of at least 8.5 from at least a hundred reviews was assigned to an area by its coordinates, using the same boundaries our hotel pipeline uses. We then sampled Agoda rates for two nights, 10 October 2026 and 26 December 2026, two adults, in US dollars. Seventy-seven of the seventy-eight My Khe properties and sixty-nine of the seventy An Thuong properties returned an October rate, which is what the medians are calculated from.
These are samples taken in September 2026, not quotes, and they will differ on the day you book. What they are good for is the comparison, because every property was priced on the same nights.
A rule of thumb to finish
If your trip is three nights or fewer and the beach is the point, book My Khe and do not think about it again. If your trip is a week or more, or you are travelling as a couple who like eating out, book An Thuong and spend the difference on dinner. If you are bringing small children, book My Khe regardless of the maths.
And whichever you choose, ask which street the room faces. In this city that question is worth more than the star rating.

Is it worth staying on the beach in Da Nang?
On our September 2026 samples, beachfront costs about a fifth more than the block behind it for the same median guest score. It is worth it for families with small children, for sunrise swimmers, and if a sea view from the room is part of the trip. Otherwise the money buys better dinners.
How far is An Thuong from the beach?
Two to eight minutes on foot depending on the street. Everything on our An Thuong shortlist is inside a ten-minute walk of the sand.
Which part of Da Nang is cheapest to stay in?
Of the three main areas, the City Center on the west bank, at a median of forty-two dollars in October and thirty-five in December, followed by An Thuong at forty-three. The Airport Side is cheaper still but has very few qualifying hotels.
Is My Khe or An Thuong better for couples?
An Thuong for most couples: you can walk to dinner and a drink, and the savings are real over several nights. My Khe if the sea view and the sunrise matter more than the walk.
Is My Khe or An Thuong better for families?
My Khe, clearly. Not having to cross the beach road with children, and being able to return to the room mid-morning, outweighs the price difference.
When is Da Nang most expensive?
Our December sample was higher than October across the beachfront and the resort strip, with Non Nuoc rising the most, from a hundred and fifty-nine dollars to two hundred and twenty-six at the median. An Thuong and the City Center were flat or slightly cheaper in December.
