An Thuong is the block most visitors end up in without ever deciding to. It sits behind the southern end of Da Nang's beach, a grid of small streets numbered An Thuong 1 through An Thuong 30, and it is where the Western breakfasts, the yoga studios, the massage places and most of the bars ended up. You can walk to the sand in five minutes, walk to dinner in two, and pay noticeably less than the beach road charges for the same room.
That is the case for staying here. The case against is noise, and it is real: the through-streets carry motorbikes well past ten at night, and a street-facing room on the wrong corner will teach you that on night one.

Where exactly is An Thuong?
An Thuong is in Ngu Hanh Son district, on the beach side of the Han river, roughly between Ho Xuan Huong street in the south and Vo Nguyen Giap, the beach road, in the east. Locals also call the wider strip My An. The grid runs a few hundred metres deep, which is the whole point: everything in it is walkable, including the beach.
Two reference points make it easy to picture. Vo Nguyen Giap is the beach road, and anything east of it is sand. Tran Bach Dang runs parallel one street back and carries the seafood halls. The An Thuong numbered streets sit behind those, and the further back you go the quieter and cheaper it gets, at the cost of a longer walk.
Who An Thuong suits
Couples who want to walk to dinner and a drink without organising a Grab each way. Remote workers, because the cafe density here is the highest in the city and most places will let you sit for hours on one coffee. Anyone staying more than four nights, because the savings against the beach road compound and because you start to recognise the same faces, which is half of what makes a stay feel like a stay.
It suits families less well than the beachfront does. The streets are narrow, the pavements are often parked on, and crossing Vo Nguyen Giap with small children is a job. Families are usually happier a few hundred metres north with the beach on their doorstep.
What a day here actually looks like
Coffee is the first decision and there are dozens within a five-minute walk, from Vietnamese ca phe sua da at a plastic-stool place to a flat white that costs three times as much. The beach is best before eight, when the water is calm and half of Da Nang is already in it. By mid-morning the cafes fill with laptops. Lunch is cheap and local if you walk two streets inland, or Western and not cheap if you stay on the main strips. Afternoons are too hot to be outside between about one and four, which is when the massage places and the pools earn their keep. Dinner is either seafood by the kilo on Tran Bach Dang or something international in the grid. The bars run late, and that is the noise you signed up for.

How these were chosen: from our Da Nang hotel database, which tracks every property in the city with a guest score of 8.5 or higher from at least 100 reviews. For this list we also required a review inside the last month, then read each finalist's last twenty reviews looking for the complaints that never appear in a listing. Prices are Agoda samples we pulled in September 2026 for two nights, 10 October and 26 December, two adults, in US dollars and rounded, so you can see the seasonal swing rather than a single number. They are samples, not quotes.

PĀMA Boutique Hotel and Bistro
The value pick, and the one guests write the longest reviews about. Recent stays describe rooms that are spacious, spotless and designed rather than decorated, with panoramic ocean views from the upper floors, and a breakfast that one August guest counted as thirteen kinds of fruit. Another liked that they could walk back from the beach and into the lobby still in a swimsuit. Staff get named in reviews, which is usually a good sign.
The catch: there is no swimming pool. The amenity list runs to a bistro, a bar, a sauna and a spa, and that is it. In a city where a rooftop pool costs about ten dollars more a night, that is the trade you are making at this price.
Santa Luxury Hotel
Three minutes from the sand, a rooftop pool that looks out over the water, and a complimentary afternoon tea served by the pool from about half past one. Guests on the upper floors report seeing the sea even from rooms sold as city view. On our October sample it was the cheapest room on this list.
The catch: a city-view room is a city-view room. One August guest put it plainly, that they could see the sea from the balcony but it really was a city view. If the water matters to you, pay for the category that says so. A separate recent stay mentioned a musty smell from the air conditioning, which is worth a sniff test at check-in.
Estrella Boutique Hotel
The long-stay base. Gym, sauna, spa, pool and bicycles, cafes and restaurants on the doorstep, and reviews that keep using the words clean and value in the same sentence. One guest described the location honestly: not right on My Khe beach, but within walking distance, with plenty of good small restaurants nearby. Another timed it at ten minutes by Grab to the city centre.
The catch: street-facing rooms get real motorbike noise at night. This is the single most repeated complaint. Ask for a room at the back, and if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs anyway.
Sofiana My Khe Hotel and Spa
A rooftop pool bar, a free twenty-minute spa session per room and a free draught beer, in a lane that reviewers describe as lively and central, with restaurants, bars and spas inside a short walk. After a week at a laptop the spa session is a real perk rather than a gimmick.
The catch: lively cuts both ways after ten at night. Nothing recurring appeared in the last twenty reviews, which is its own recommendation, but ask for a room away from the lane if you sleep early.
Golden Lotus Hotel Da Nang
A rooftop bar with a sea view at a price that undercuts the beach road, plus a pool, gym and spa, and Korean-speaking staff at the desk, which matters more than you would think in this part of the city.
The catch: the price roughly jumps from forty-two dollars to sixty-nine between our October and Christmas samples, one of the sharper seasonal swings on this list. Book early for December or pick a different week.
Halina Hotel and Apartment
The family and self-catering option: apartment-style rooms with kitchens, a buffet breakfast whose menu changes, a pool that one parent described as exactly the right size for children, and pool towels provided. Guests mention a lobby that feels more expensive than the rate.
The catch: it is not on the sand, and the apartment rooms vary more than the hotel rooms do. Read the specific room type rather than the property score.
M Hotel Danang
The splurge. Five star, a kids club, a poolside bar, a steam room, and oceanfront rooms with high ceilings and a real view of the beach.
The catch: the price, and the room size. It is more than double most of this list in October and about a hundred dollars more at Christmas, and one August guest with an oceanfront room still found it not very spacious. You are paying for the view and the facilities, not for floor area.
Booking notes for this area specifically
Ask which street. An Thuong is a grid, and "An Thuong" in an address tells you nothing about noise. The numbered streets are quieter than Vo Nguyen Giap and Tran Bach Dang, and the back of a building is quieter than the front.
Check the walk, not the distance. Several properties here are marketed as beachfront and are a five to eight minute walk, which is fine, but is not the same thing. Look at the map pin rather than the name.
September to December is the wet end of the year on this coast, and the sea gets rough. The national tourism board describes the dry season here as roughly February to August on its Da Nang page, and the city's tourism department posts sea and storm warnings on danangfantasticity.com. Prices soften in the wet months, the beach does not always cooperate, and a hotel with a good pool earns its money.
Book the room type, not the hotel. On this list the difference between a good stay and an average one is almost always which room you took, not which property.
Sun and heat are the real risk here, not the traffic. The CDC's Vietnam traveller health page lists heat and sun exposure among the routine risks, and between about one and four in the afternoon locals are indoors for a reason.

Is An Thuong a good area to stay in Da Nang?
Yes, if you want to walk to cafes, bars and the beach and pay less than the beach road. It is the best value walkable area in the city. It is weaker for families with small children and for anyone who needs quiet.
How far is An Thuong from My Khe beach?
Between two and eight minutes on foot depending on which street you are on. Everything in this guide is inside a ten-minute walk of the sand.
Is An Thuong noisy at night?
The through-streets are, yes: motorbikes past ten and bars later than that. Rooms at the back of a building and on the numbered side streets are noticeably quieter, and this is the complaint that comes up most in recent reviews.
How much is a good hotel in An Thuong?
On our September 2026 samples, between thirty-five and fifty dollars a night for a well-reviewed four star in October, with December pricing higher. The five star option on this list runs from about a hundred and ten dollars.
An Thuong or the beachfront?
Beachfront for families, sunrise swimmers and anyone who wants the sea from the bed. An Thuong for couples, remote workers, longer stays and anyone who would rather spend the difference on dinner. The My Khe guide covers the other side of that choice.
Do I need a scooter if I stay in An Thuong?
No. This is the one area of Da Nang where you can live on foot, with a Grab for trips across the river or to the airport.
